The text of the Happy Homes Project (HHP) has been inspired from the definition of social value included in the RIBA Social Value Toolkit (2020)

Alma Estate Regeneration, Enfield

The residents of Alma Estate Regeneration in Enfield took part in the Happy Homes Project in the summer of 2023. During this phase of the project, resident feedback was collected through interviews, focus groups, diaries, observations and walk arounds at residents’ homes to identify key spaces, elements and details that spark positive emotions and contribute positively to residents’ wellbeing and quality of life.

The involvement of residents was not a typical feedback exercise because they contributed to the research process and development of the toolkit. Resident feedback was key to identifying and categorising spaces and elements into themes and sub-themes forming the main structure of the project.

This interaction with residents was particularly important because they were the main source of information in the development of the toolkit which will be trialled in following case studies. In the long term, the use of the toolkit will create a large database of qualitative evidence that will allow to explore and identify complex patterns, synergies and trade-offs.
